Director Mode Animals

"Animal Lover" Achievements

Director Mode is a mode where it is possible for you to play as any character or animal in the game once you unlock them.

There are 17 categories of actors in Director Mode. Animals is one of them.

In order to unlock Animals in Director Mode, you need to collect Peyote Plants.

Peyote Plants are 27 Collectibles found in different locations in San Andreas.

There are 3 Categories of Animals unlocked by eating Peyote Plants: Land, Sky and Ocean Animals.

You only need to collect Land and Sky Peyote Plants to unlock the 21 Animals in Director Mode as the Ocean animals are unplayable.

The 22nd animal in Director Mode has a different way to unlock and is not needed to get the related Achievement.

To unlock an animal, you need to eat its peyote plant and hold "E" to end the hallucination. You will get a notification that you unlocked the animal on bottom left.

Here is a map with the locations of all 27 Peyote Plants and below it, is a close up location of each one.

Note: You might encounter a bug where you don't find a peyote plant in its location, we found out that exiting the game and relaunching it fixes that.
Know that you need to exit the game entirely, not just load a save file.
(This only happened to us with the ocean peyote plants)

Parachute to the roof of the hotel to get this peyote plant (found in the balcony). You can also land your helicopter on the roof.

You need a helicopter to get this peyote plant.

Look for the two small herbs.

Ocean Animals

These animals are not needed for the achievement.

To reach some of these peyote plants, you need to equip a Scuba set (specifically #25 and #27).
You can equip one after exiting a Submarine or a Dinghy while on water.

A Submarine can be found in the Sonar Collections Dock after you purchase it.
A Dinghy is found in the same place after you talk to Abigail using Michael once the question mark appears on the dock after buying the Sonar Collections Dock and completing the "Monkey Business" mission as Michael.

A Dinghy is faster than the Submarine.

If you have trouble finding a peyote plant under water, use the radar (minimap) in the images below and get yourself in the specific water depth.

The "Animal Lover" Achievement

You can get this Achievement by playing as any animal in Director Mode regardless of how many you've unlocked.

The "Cryptozoologist" Achievement

After unlocking The 21 Land and Sky Animals, enter Director Mode.

There are multiple ways to enter Director Mode, we will go with the easiest one.

While playing as any Story Mode character, open the Interaction Menu (M on keyboard) and click on "Director Mode"

Click on "Actors"

Click on "Animals"

Choose any animal and press "Enter" and you will get the Achievement.
