While playing ATS, you can get fined for different reasons if you fail to abide by the traffic rules.
Below are all the offenses you need to avoid in ATS. (for Euro Truck Sim 2 offenses, check this Guide instead)
There is always a speed limit that you need to respect wherever you are, that limit is shown on the Navigation Mode of the Route Advisor ("F5").
If you exceed the speed limit and you pass by a speed camera or a cop car, you get fined depending on how far you've exceeded the speed limit.
Note: Driving 3 mph (5 km/h) over the speed limit won't get you a fine.
Passing by a red traffic light will result in a "Red Signal Offense"; although in the United States, you can turn right on a red light without getting fined.
You get this fine by driving on the wrong lane of the road.
Traffic in the United States is right handed.
Colliding with another vehicle will get you this Offense.
You also get fined if an AI vehicle crashes onto you.
You can drive for 14 in-game hours without resting.
If you don't rest after 14 hours, you will start getting fines repeatedly and after a while, you will start dozing for few seconds (screen turns dark) and you can't control your truck until you wake up.
To avoid that, keep an eye on the fatigue icon; when it fills up and turns red, you only got one in-game hour to find a place to rest.
You can also check how many hours you got until you start getting fines by checking the Current Job Mode of the Route Advisor ("F6").
Know that you don't need to wait for the icon to turn red to rest; you will recover the 14 hours anytime you sleep.
You will get this fine if you don't turn on your lights in the evening or while it's raining.
What time the lights should be turned on varies from location to another.
A good way of knowing when to turn them on is by looking at the AI vehicles and turning your lights on when they do but you can also just leave them on the whole time.
To turn on the Parking Lights press "L", this is NOT enough to avoid the fines.
Pressing "L" again will turn on the Low Beams Lights, and those are the ones you need to turn on to not get fined.
While the Low Beams Lights are on, you can press "K" to turn on the High Beam Lights, which you can use if it gets too dark.
Press "K" again to turn the High Beam Lights off.
Press "L" a third time to turn off all the lights.
Note: Do not wait until it gets dark to turn on the Low Beams Lights as you can get fined even while it's still bright.
It's not realistic, but have them always on to avoid that.
While on delivery, you may be informed to pull in for inspection when you get close to a weight station.
Failing to weigh your truck will result in an offense.
If you're asked to pull in for weight inspection and you got damage on your truck of 19% or more, you will get fined for damaged vehicle usage.
You can check the damage on your truck on the Assistance Mode of the Route Advisor by pressing "F7"
If you wish to turn off offenses altogether, go to:
"Options" >
"Gameplay" >
and uncheck "Fatigue Simulation" and "Traffic Offense".
